Outstanding Skills To Help Improve Your Assimilation and Study Results

Studying skills are necessary and very important to get an effective and pleasing reading results. Because sometimes we feel overwhelmed after reading/studying, sometimes we could not remember what we have read, may be due to wrong reading method, wrong time or wrong place.
But what if we could just study more effectively and efficiently, what if we could save more time when studying. I think you will agree with that it would be a nice improvement.

Below are some skills to help you get that:
  • Flexibility
  • Prioritisation
  • Familiarising

Flexibility

This deals with your ability to read according to your need/mood/state. This skill helps you to gain something no matter how little even when you are not in mood.
This consist of the following sub-skills:

* Speed reading:- When you find it difficult to focus your mind (i.e concentrate), reading at higher rate should be considered.

HOW TO APPLY:
  1. Try as much as possible to focus your eye on your book.
  2. Use either a ruler or the bottom of your pen to guide your eye down the book's pages.
  3. Try as much as possible not to fixate on certain words, you could get tired easily when doing that.
  4. Read Fast

* Read For The Key:- Reading for the keys is best useful when you have limited time to read large and voluminous notes. This skill is somehow different from speed reading because in speed reading you read every word is on the same scale no key/point, they are read in the same manner.

HOW TO APPLY:
  1. Get a good/convenience and distraction free place to read.
  2. When reading go for the keywords. For example in the definition of a noun - a noun is a name of any person animal place or thing - the keywords are "NAME", "PERSON", "ANIMAL", "PLACE", "THING".
  3. You should not bother to commit everything to brain, just assimilate the little you can or else you could miss some key points while having those that are not important in your head.
Note: The level of your comprehension when using these skills could be lower compared to when using the in-depth reading skill.

Prioritisation

As the name implies, prioritising. Many of us would have been in a situation where we have to choose one thing over the other, some things will be given more preference over the other.
So, applying this method to your study means, some topics/subjects will have more significance than the other and also by using this method you will be able to concentrate on important topics first rather than having your mind wandering around trying to figure out how to read everything on the table.
The Green(TOP)- Yellow(MIDDLE)- Red(LOW) Prioritising this is also known as the "TRAFFIC PRIORITISING", where the colours stands for their priority.

HOW TO APPLY:
  1. Get a cardboard for each colours [ green - yellow - red]
  2. You could cut it into a small circular/square shaped.
  3. Trouble shoot all the subjects and topics you need to study.
  4. Figure out the topics and subjects that fits each colour [i.e Top priority - Middle Priority - Low priority]
  5. Now write those topics in their respective colours.
Example:-
For my physics reading..

The Top prioritise are

The Middle prioritise

The Low prioritise

Familiarising

One of the problem that most of us have is how to remember some complex or unfamiliar words, there are higher percentage that you face this problem if you are in science class.
The problem people like me face is that of the botanical name and some jargon used in medicine line.
But actually using this skill [ Familiarising], you could master those botanical name.

HOW TO APPLY:
  1. Get the list of Keys/Points/Characteristics/name and other things that are difficult to commit to your brain.
  2. Relate those things to things that you are familiar with[ May be from your home environment, school or area]
Example:
If I am to study plant cell I could use this method to know the function of the parts.
  • Cell Wall= School wall [i.e they both protect the content inside them]
  • Cell Membrane = School doors [i.e they both let things in and out of them]
  • Nucleus = Principal's office [i.e the control centre of the activities]
I know this is not the full list of those part, but this is just an example to give you and insight to build yours.

Another method is to use the first letters of each points to form a sentence.

Example:
In order to study the planets, you could use this.
My Very Eye May Just See Under Nine Planet where each initial letters represent the planets according to their position from the sun.
  • My= Mercury
  • Very = Venus
  • Eye= Earth
  • May= Mars
  • Just= Jupiter
  • See = Saturn
  • Under = Uranus
  • Nine= Neptune
  • Planet = Pluto [thou some say pluto is no more a planet, either way you can still use this for other remaining planet]
I hope you find this post useful, so what about sharing and spreading the knowledge to others, which also help keep me up
